Crappy Ramblings The Pokemon anime has been a masterclass in disappointing me, especially as of recent. What could have been one of the greatest coming-of-age stories in animation history instead became a soulless merchandising treadmill that actively disrespected me, as all long-running series do. Ash isn't even a character at times. He was a corporate mascot locked in a cage, eternally ten years old, eternally forgetting everything he learned, eternally losing leagues so the cycle could start over. Every new region promised some sort of change, some sort of twist on how it acts. And even then? That's not the end-all be-all for me. For me, it's the show's humor. It's a children's show that doesn't rely on over the top, low brow humor which is fine in moderation, but not for something I think tackles fairly mature topics. But Pokémon kills that, especially during the middle point. Sinnoh showed some of Ash's promise to return. Some pokemon with an actual...

When it comes to what I find to be reliable, or news sites I can turn too in regards to our state of the world, I immediately think of NPR. Most if not all the news I consume comes from podcasts, or something in a podcast-like format. NPR, Alex O'Connor's "within reason", and "Ear Biscuits". Of course I read news articles, but the way I digest information feels so much more concise with podcasts. I however don't know if I can call them reliable, only because they don't list any sort of credible sources, save for Within Reason as Alex interviews quite a few scholarly men and women, though they tend to be of a more religious nature. Otherwise, I turn to "ground news' to keep myself from being trapped in an echo chamber. While I consider myself more liberal (even if moderate), I like to keep my position flexible. But with the introduction of more and more suspicion in what I can even call journalism, or the regurgitation of generative A.I., I...

About Me Hi! I'm Jackson, or Jack. I'm (not quite as freshly turned), 18! I was born in California, San Diego and I spent a majority of my childhood there. Save for the few moments of respite in Europe with my father studying abroad in Oxford, England. I'm majoring in psychology and hope to pursue my masters in said field, and if that proves to be too daunting, then just to educate myself. I also have a budding passion for herpetology, but I'm finding myself very invested in the idea of rehabilitating and breeding cold-blooded creatures. Whether that's a career or even a hobby, it's something I'm actively working towards. LBCC just happens to be the closest place of education for me. But, that's not a bad thing. I enjoy the roastrunners. I enjoy the art galleries and community clean-ups that it organizes. The community is what I think really sets LBCC apart from other community colleges. But the reason I'm pursuing a media/journalism class with a p...
